Long Finned Pilot Whales
A pod of about 20 to 30 Long Finned Pilot Whales was observed recently (around Tuesday 18th November) in the Blackwater, reaching as far as Osea island.
Rarely seen around East Anglia it is speculated that they may have been following shoals of herring or mackerel.

Bradwell Power Station
Bradwell Power Station
The current Power station was decommissioned in 2002. Bradwell has now been short listed with seven other sites as a potential site for one or possibly two new power stations.
The no fly zone of two nautical miles radius (about 2.3 miles) and 2000 feet in height remains in effect. This no fly zone includes the whole of the Tollesbury Wick (Essex Wildlife Trust) Reserve, and about half of Tollesbury and a portion of the Old Hall RSPB site.
Anyone concerned about violations of this zone may contact the authorities at Bradwell Power station. It has been asserted that it is entirely up to the public to report low flying aircraft which may be in breach of these regulations. This implies that there are no official procedures to monitor or implement the no fly zone. Identification of aircraft may be difficult.
Concerns are that any new build should be earthquake proof and also proof against high impact such as from an airplane falling out of the sky. It is clear that air routes are now regularly over the locality of Bradwell Power Station.
There is also concern about possible terrorist attacks. To rely entirely on the public to ensure safety in any respect is surely deplorable.

Bradwell Concerns
Japan's top government spokesman says a surge in radiation at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant on Wednesday 16 March 2011 has made it too dangerous for workers to stay at the facility. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said efforts to douse the crippled reactors with water had to be stopped and the workers withdrawn after radiation levels surged to dangerous levels.
Recent news makes it clear that Full Transparency and Openess is needed for any New Build Nuclear Power Stations.
This must include all possible hazards. Even then there might not even be awareness of all eventualities. Bradwell has been one of eight sites short listed for possible new build. The region has been subject to a serious flood in 1953 and a serious earthquake 1884. There are now high flying commercial air routes over the region.
Any idea that Bradwell could not be subject to Tsunami or Earthquake is not acceptable. The Mediterranean Fault Line extends beyond Spain into the Atlantic and is a region where tectonic plates are colliding. The Mid-atlantic Trench (where plates are separating) should also not be discounted; there is still substantial seismic activity. We only need to look to Iceland. Moreover any effects of any flooding would be substantially increased if funnelled in either direction towards the Dover Straits. Fukushima demonstrates that even spent fuel can pose as great a risk of meltdown and huge amounts of radiation. Any assertion that secrecy is necessary for security reasons will only tend to demonstrate that there is an unacceptable risk.

Bradwell Nuclear Power Station Decommissioning
The main buildings at the UK's shuttered Bradwell nuclear power plant are being sealed in a £20 million ($31 million) 'weather envelope' while they await final dismantling.
Bradwell had two 123 MWe Magnox reactors that operated from 1962 to 2002. All nuclear fuel was removed by 2005 and in 2011 the shared turbine hall used by both reactors was demolished, leaving only the primary nuclear buildings.
